Fished the Tusc River with my dad last night for 6 hours in the TCBA catfish tournament.......we had live bluegills and creek chubs........we also had cut creek chubs and bluegills and we had ONE run in the 6 hours of fishing time.........the Tusc has been that way since about October 1rst.........lots of hours fishing for very few bites...........weve even tried chicken livers to get a few channel cats and nothing is working right now for us ..........has anyone else ran into a extremely tough bite so far this Fall season ?? i usually catch alot of channel cats and flatties all through October and even late into November........im just trying to figure out why the bite has been so tough ?? even the turtles quit biting .............i had rods in for almost 3 hours straight last night and none of them even moved they had the same baits on them when i reeled them in to check them.............ANY ADVICE ??? The water levels have been extremely low for about a month or so now could that be the problem........i mean the fish still have to eat right ??

That happens to all of us from time to time, but I would suggest changing your baits a little more often...not that that has helped me lately embarrassed For the channels I would try chumming an area and see if that helps, then you will know that the fish ar still "eating" versus going dormant due to the water levels.

Is this problem across the board for the tournament?

Well the fish tend to go deep in the winter... somewhat and sometimes now. Depending on the bait in the river system. The bait tends to move out in the main channel here this time of year into deeper water. With your low water conditions going on.....I would look for deeper water. Dont be afraid to throw a slip cork if the bait is suspended. Fish tend to feed under the bait balls this time of year here. Its basic fishing really ...find the bait and you will find the fish. I just think the bait has moved out into deeper water on you and the fish followed.

Your problem is the same as most of the East Coast has been experiencing this year,,,abnormal weather patterns with lots of Easterly component winds,,,Just fish the James for two straight days with East winds and dang near nothing to show for it
