Jim

Mike and I often catch bluegills for bait and end up
with various sized baits each night.  We usually use
the larger ones first because they will live longer
 on the hook.

We haven't seen any size preference. It seems
that bait location seems to be the key here since
our flathead eat large or small baits with the
same intensity. Then again 1 fish for each 3 nights
fished was our average. It is hard to see patterns
with so few fish.

Last year we averaged a fish about every other night.
Our bait size only changed with availability.

It was like I said an interesting observation,,,and for the first time ever---I caught flatheads every trip out from the first of Aug till mid Oct when the started letting the water out of the lake---dang somebody oughtta lubricate that horseshoe---anyway the baits came harder to come by in those earlier fall months and things I would have normally released was kept and used (the small gills).  And with our more liberal fishing Pole laws I was able to keep better track of large, medium and small gills,,,I generally placed one of each size to target areas (cover oriented) and surprisingly the little guys was the first to be picked up,,and by the next morning only the larger baits were left---maybe they were better at hiding--I dunnno

My brother who is addicted to gambling, fishes paylakes for the money pots,,,,at lot of his money pots are won with 1 to 2 inch bluegills---so ya gotta think something is up with bait size.
