Any one use for beef tongue as bait? I bought a side of beef and the tongue came with it and I don't like that pickled tongue much. So I thought maybe I could use it for bait. Any thoughts?

Stranger things have worked I'm sure. I do know that beef toungue is used on crab lines because it is tough and the crab cant tear it up easily. I have some goose a guy at work gave me to try. Cooked some and I like it OK, but not something I would eat regularly. Noticed it is VERY bloody so I might try some as bait next time I go out. If nothing else it will get rid of wat I have left in the freezer. lol.

Soak the goose in saltwater for a couple hours, drain the water, repeat until water stays clear. Gets all the blood out, and kills most of the game taste. Also with goose either slow cook or cook medium rare to keep it from getting too chewey or from tasting like liver. I soak my duck and goose in a can of coke overnight after the saltwater treatment. Helps tenderize them and mellows the flavor but doesnt taste like coke after you cook it. :thumbsup

Beef toungue is good to eat if you cook it right. Put it in a pan and boil it until it is tender. Take it out and let it cool enough that you can touch it and then peel the outside layer off and give it to the dogs. Take the rest and slice it crossways into about 1/2 inch steaks. Salt & pepper it roll it in flour and then fry it. Like mentioned above it makes great sanwiches.

Well, the goose worked very very well on the little eaters, but the big kitties wouldn't give it the stink off their chit. Landed a steady stream of runts off some little bloody chunks of goose, but the only decent cats came on good ole cut gizzard shad. Finally took the big hunk of goose off the big rod and replaced it with a shad head. Landed a 25 off it on the next spot I tried.
Did the toungue ever get tried as bait?
