In the local park lake I fish,I always see dead shad floating near the boat rental place....and once in a while I'll see em pop off the surface,I was wondering if theres a way, from the shore to target them,it's real muddy water so the visability is real low.Is there another way from shore to catch em besides a cast net?

I've seen men catching them with dip nets along the shore  and close to the docks up at Buckyeye Lake just before dark and after dark with flashlights. I use a cast net whether from shore, a dock or from a boat.

You can get them under a light at night with a dip net.

best way is to get a net...its not to bad to learn how to use..and wally world has some pretty cheap also... and if you really want to throw it out far from the bank get a 3.5'er you will be able to throw it a lot farther if distance is a issue..and you can add another rope to it....these were caught last year,

best thing ive ever used other than a cast net is a umbrella net, just drop it off the dock wait a few min and lift it real quick,or attach a light to the top of it and itll attract baitfish at night.
i like to keep my shad alive until i use them but that is not always possible, when i cant keep em alive i fill the bottom of a cooler with ice and lay a piece of styro foam or even foil on top of the ice and put my shad on that, keeps it out of the water that forms when the ice melts,or you could also just freeze a bunch of 20oz pop bottles and just throw your shad in with them, only water that will get in the cooler is condensation.

yeh in the picutre i was freezing those for the winter.... also i like to use them live get you a lil air bubbler and do what madkatter said with the water bottles to keep the chlorine out of the water.... make sure its a circle bucket so they can keep swimming against the current...if you have a lil power head that would work great to make the water move....... or ice and fresh cut..

yeah i prefer to keep them alive as well but if u cant then use them as cut bait or use them whole they seem to work better alive most often but cut bait works well also i have caught several fish both ways
