Try 'em every time I catch one in the gill net, but have yet to have a taker. They do look real good (tasty) when you cut them up. Way more appealing to the human eye at least than a nasty ole gizzard shad. Guess the cats "see" things differently.

lol. Reminds me of the asian lady at the fish market around here when we were kids. She would get pissed every time we bought squid for bait. lol.

Yep! Same way here when I was a kid getting bait at the bay docks at Corpus Christi. LOL. Carp is good ,when fixed right!

Don't know about Blue crab for bait , do know how good they taste. Esp. in gumbo or just by themselves :smile:

I will try some crab next time I catch one in the gill net. Last sat night I had one holding on to a clob of grass caught on my weight.

I had a big ole blue crab in the gill net last night and after he weakened after a few hours in the bait cooler I proke off his points, hooked him in the corner of his shell and suspended him just off the bottom. Got tired of not getting any bites off of it after about 2 hours and replaced it with a hunk of shad that did get bites.

I have caught small cats off small crabs in the past, and have seen cats cleaned that were full of Crab parts, but I think the shad and eels and gills work much better.
