I went down and had some fun pulling in some bluegill and was wondering how everyone prefers to prep their fish. I have a cousin who only uses fish heads when he fishes... I prefer to use the gut pouch personally.

How big do you cut the chunks? The fish I caught were generally in about the 8 inch range so they will probably need to be cut down some.

Tail hook em for lakes and no current situations, either pin the lips together or across the hump at the head for current----8 inches is  about the right size for this time of year,,,,down size from late Sept to Oct.

i use whole ones about 5/6 inches live and hookem from behind the bottom lip up through the top behind the front lip and trim the tails   or some times crimp there bak with a pait of pliars just below the back fin  not too deep though they die faster

dont cut then hey have you ever really noticed how big a flatheads mouth is use it whole hook it anywhere it can stay alive like really normal tail.....mouth......or really low on the lower tail by its pooper lol
and if you have any dead ones then cut them up a lil

i have don some experimenting with the lil area below their mouth there are 2 lil fins close together there one on each side of the fish cut that off fins and all but dont cut 2 deep if its alive cuz it will kill it there is a strong scent gland there if you cut it off the fish usually goes nuts and i get more that way and also when you get a few scent glands like that use them they also produce fish ............

experiment with that it works

ill get some pics up soon when i go bait fishing again

Since I use started using circle hooks I found that hooking bluegills infront of their dorsal fin and on top of the head keeps the circle from hooking back into the bluegills body as much.
