is it legal in your state to use game fish, such as sunfish, crappie, or any other game fish. this would be very interesting to know for many states it's not legal.

Not here in Oregon Mike.  No live bait of any kind other than worms.  At least that's what the law reads, but sometimes it happens anyway.

In Ohio you can use any fish for bait as long as it was caught legal.

as long as they have been caught on hook and line and also meet size and creel limits.
we cannot use carp or live gizzard shad.

The goldfish thing is iffy. I called the SCDNR in Columbia last fall to ask and they couldn't yes or no on using them.

We can use any fish native, well caught in our waters as bait as long as we count them toward our creel limit.

White Perch are consider game fish which is good and bad. They are taken over some lakes where white bass used to bound, like Lake Monticello.

Mussles are illegal in ohio...I believe their still protected...something about rebuilding the population...But in the local reservior they were overtaking real fast...people not scraping the hulls of their boats.

Indiana regs says you cant use "Live shad",but I asked the game warden, and he said "Shad is bait". It is OK to use dead shad or shad for cut bait in IN. I think they were referring mainly to Brookville lake, but just didnt specify. They have been stocking bluecats there to help control the shad population for the past few years. 8)
