Same as WV, but, for some reason we can't use carp or gizzard shad

Indiana regs says you cant use "Live shad",but I asked the game warden, and he said "Shad is bait". It is OK to use dead shad or shad for cut bait in IN. I think they were referring mainly to Brookville lake, but just didnt specify. They have been stocking bluecats there to help control the shad population for the past few years. 8)

Yea, i left out the "live" part. I really don't understand the live carp law, carp are already in just about all water in Indiana

In Ohio you can use any fish for bait as long as it was caught legal.
Same in N.C.

i use anything i can put on a hook and always will......but thats me if i want to use pole cat whiskes thats up to me if we went by what all is leagl and what not we would never fish and if you honestly ask most dnr a simple question about a law each one will give you 5 indrect answers anyhow.....thats the way it is here we have made calls trying to get answers to a question on and off for going on 3 years and every time its a diffrent answer a real fun thing to do while fishing is break out the cell phone and call the dnr and ask a simple question then have your friend call then do the same thing the next time i bet you will have at least 3 diffrent answers
so if i get in trouble for something im just gonna say that other guy said i could im sorry it wont happen again

Here in Nevada you cant use gamefish. Carp are not considered gamefish, so they are free game, uh I think , lol.

Brookville lake is the only place I indiana that you can use live shad as far as I know. They can be used there because of the striper fishing and they are afrai of introducing them to other waters. lmao. Glenflint lake has been drained twice to eradicate them. Teh dnr says someone is stocking them in the lake. i think that they fo up the creeks and comback and naturely restock.

In this area you can use any type of gamefish that is caught by rod and reel except those species that have a size limit on them. The DNR boys claim they can't determine what size they were after you have cut them up. We mostly use bream, skipjack, shad and chicken for bait so we have no problem.
