Im trying to figure out if there is a way to keep chicken liver on the hook? After it sits in the water awhile its all mushy and the fish take it so fast u dont have a chance to react someone told me to use pantyhose has anyone ever heard of this that just sounds far fetched any ideals let me know

You havent seen us old fat guys, reaching down and cutting off a piece of our pantyhose---you haven't been paying attention :lol:
Yes that works, and so does cheese cloth. try keeping your livers very fresh and cold as they will be much firmer that way. Somebody also manufacturers a liver and shad hook that also works well from what I have been told,,,it has like a safety pin device along the shank for clipping on the liver. Also try turkey and ground hog livers as they are much tougher and stay on the hook better.
And finally there is Earls secret recipe :lol: this really does work well and attracts the eater cats from afar and is very strong smelling.
to a pint of chicken of chicken livers add 1/4 cup of garlic powder
1 bottle of peppermint oil and 1 bottle of anise oil,,,mix well without damaging the livers and let stand over night in the fridge.
you can get the peppermint and anise oil (licorice) in the candy making sections of your favorite store or in crafts at wally world.

Pantyhose can be annoying. I don't use liver often but when I do use them, I wrap sewing thread around the liver & hook shank, several loops around and break/cut the thread. Thread is easier to remove to me.

if yer gonna keep the channels here's what you do:
tie a snap swivel on and take a treble hook, run the eye of the treble thru da middle of yer liver, put hook on swivel and fold the liver flaps back onto the barbs making sure barbs are exposed. i dare you to cast it off! only problem is many gut hooks but you git the hooks back when you clean yer catch.

all these things will... work ... just depending on how far and hard you want to cast it....if you need to cast then the hose or thread will work great....also..... they make liver hooks.....another thing make sure that the liver is really fresh and chill......dont teat it with your hand make your cut it with a knife or scissors... another thing you can do is get the mesh that fruit or onions come in....it cam be come work but it does work....... but if you get fresh liver and cut it instead of tearing it i can sling it quite a ways with out it coming off the hook....im sure some of these guys tips will work for you.......

Fresh not frozen. The fresher the better If it was frozen than you need all the hellp you can get.

I just leave a long of line(12") on the tag end,when you tie on the hook.
Wrap this around the liver.
works just like the thread.

Im usally anti liver but a trick I learned and actually works well taught to me buy an old codger
Take a peice of plywood 3 ft long or so & 6 to 8" wide & prop it up on one end and put the lower end in a catch baisen of some type and turn the entire container of livers upside down on the board so that all the blood will run down into the catch baisen so it can be reused..now the neat part , get some NON-iodized salt and heavly coat both sides and flip them back and forth so that it will soak in then before its all dried out pour all the blood back into the original contaier with all the livers and then add all the garlic or what ever flavor you want ..the trick is that the salt will toughen up the liver to the point that it almost wont come off the hook evern when you want it to..Now another option is instead of the salt use garlic salt all together

I have used a product called ROCK SALT on CLAMS also, makes them tuff, and stay on longer. I do this days before. You can even freeze it before use. I have heard that they work better when they are thawing out, gives off some kind of scent that a fresh one does not.
