OK, there were a bunch of us on Paltalk last night and I heard about this and thought it was a great idea.  Now the credit for this goes to Lineman and Lonestar.  They were the two guy's that told us about this.

You know what it's like to fish with livers.  It's kind of messy and another problem is that they are so fragile.  Well here's what you do.  Get one of those egg cartons that are made of the styrofoam material, not the ones that are made from paper or cardboard type stuff.  Bait your hooks with the liver and place the baited hook into one of the egg compartments in the carton.  Do this with as many baits as you like.  Once they are baited, you then place the carton in the freezer and freeze them for 24 hours or more.  When you go fishing you take one of the baited hooks with the frozen liver on it and rig it up to you rod and cast away.  And you can cast as hard as you want because these are frozen solid and are not going to come off the hook half way out across the lake or river which is typically what happens to mine.  When they reach the bottom they immediately start thawing out and releasing blood and scent as they thaw.  In no time at all they are back to their normal state.  If you put the egg carton of baits in an ice chest or cooler they should stay frozen or near frozen for several hours.  Especially in those stryofoam type egg cartons as they will act as insulation too.  Another option is to carefully cut the egg carton in half and the halves will easily fit into zip lock bags if your worried about contaminating food in your ice chest or something like that.  Now another twist to this is that you could also add scents, flavorings etc. to the baits before freezing so that they too will slowly be released as the baits thaw.  These baits should easily come out of the little egg compartments in the carton, but to be absolutely sure that they come out easily, you could lightly spray the compartments with pam cooking spray first.  This would certainly assure that they would just slide right out.  It sounded pretty darned interesting to me and I for one am sure going to try them when the water warms up around here.

Thanks Lineman and Lonestar for a great Masterkatters tip.

Sounds like a good idea. I bet an ice tray would work good too.

Yeah Grumpy they talked about that too.  The only advantage to the egg cartons is that you can use bigger hooks than you could maybe fit into an ice tray if you want to.

Jim,
Using discarded egg cartons as opposed to ice trays from your freezer would probably in most instances avoid  a rather messy divorce............ 8)
