Im sure we have all been guilty of using a small mouth bass, or largemouth bass for bait....but what is the law on what you can and cannot use.....the tournaments I fish in, you are allowed to use any type of bait....but the fish must be caught on rod and reel....does the bait have to be a certain length? this has always been a ? of mine...b/c i have never been asked to see my bait, only my license...

EVERYONE has NOT used BASS as bait......I have never even considered it. Most states do not allow a fish to used as bait if it is classified as "gamefish"

I have read where some states use small catfish as catfish bait.

In Kansas you could use bass if it was caught legaly and met lenghth limits. I never catch a bass big enough, whit bass however have no length limit

In Ohio they must be taken legally. Some water bodies( State controlled) may have length size and must be returned unharmed .
