i was reading a mag from last season and this guy goes to a locol slaughter house and gets a bucket uf beef blood and puts it in an old fridge for like a week or two till the blood turnes to like jello and uses it to catch monster channels

I use to have a friend whos dad owned a slaughter house and wed get buckets of beef blood that was coagulated and just cut it in chunks and catch cats out of there pond all the time,you can also add flour to the wet blood and make dough balls from it...good way to fill the freezer with some fiddlers.

I have seen where some anglers drift using the coagulated blood cut into big squares like described above and have caught bluecats in the upper 70# range.

One thing I've noticed about blood baits is you use them during the hottest weather of the year for good success.

i may have to go to the slaughter house and give it a try for some channels this year..... hey jim wander why that is...the hotter it works better?

i think its because the water is warmer and puts out the scent more better than what the cold water does i have used it before too we would take beef blood and pork blood and just about ne kind else blood and mix it all together and man u talking about a bloody mess woo hoo but caught several cats though

I think it may be the need for salt---I base this on my experiences at Mount Storm lake during the months of July and Aug. The heated water will reach temps of 95 degrees.....The small channels will hit within seconds of chicken livers hitting the bottom----put a 2nd hook on and another liver and you can catch Walleye---yes walleye on the second hook as he races to take the liver away from the channel,,,I've also caught large and smallmouth bass, and bluegill on chicken livers there,,,and my top secret----Wipers----during the last hour of light in the evening the hybrid stripers will rise and take liver floated under a bobber maybe a foot or two...
I know most animals require more salt for survival in elevated temps and I suspect this may well translate into my experiences with chicken livers on Mount Storm....so thats my take on blood and hot water.

makes since... i have notice when i fish with live with a bobber wipers or stripers will tear them up in the heat of the summer....hmmm this give me an idea..... :wink:
