almost forgot to post the results from our experiment putting fresh shad up against raw boneless chicken breast for channel cats. after hearing rumors of how well chicken breat does i just had to try it. the results....CHICKEN BREAST BLEW AWAY THE SHAD! 2 channels on the shad, 9 on the chicken breast. baits were staggered shad, breast, shad, breast etc in the same general area. not only did we get more on chicken, but they were much bigger fish. the shad takers were both about a pound where the chicken lovers were between 4-6lb. i posted this on a local forum also. a member there tried it out that evening. he was fishing with 2 poles with live gills, and 2 poles with the chicken breast chunks. the gills got passed by all night and the chicken breast produced an 18lb flattie! who woulda thunkit!

Sounds like you had a good day of fishing with those raw chicken breasts. I'm going to have to try that.

ive used chicken breast for about 3 years now and it definitely catches channel cats, one advantage to it is that it stays on the hook alot better then chicken livers !! i like to soak my breasts in anise oil........ive never used PLAIN chicken breasts without the  anise oil on  it!!  ill be testing the plain breasts first thing this Spring for sure !!!

Thanks for the tip. I wondered in the past if chicken breast would work. I heard people say it does but never tried it. I am going to give it a try now.

I have had a similar experience but instead of chicken breast catching the channels it was pork fat from pork chops. My brother in law has out fished my shad and shad guts a few times using pork fat for channels. The stuff is so tough that it’s almost impossible to pull it off the hook to re-bait. On one occasion we anchored off a nice log jam he through his pork fat baited hook and I through out some fresh cut shad, well he had a nice channel break him off in the snag he retied and cast to the same spot and with in seconds he was battling a channel that was in it’s teens low and behold it was the fish that broke him off with 1rst hook and pork fat still attached to his jaw, he swears by the stuff. I will still stick with my fresh shad though; I guess I am just stubborn.
