Let Your Line Go Slack
Let Your Line Get Tip-Wrapped
Don't Keep Steady Pressure on the Fish
Don't Follow Your Fish
Be Unprepared or Ineffective at the Strike
Fail to Rely on your reel's Drag or use it improperly
Using Your Own Rigs/Tackle When that's Not up to the Job
Dont keep rod tip high
Horse Your Trophy When It's Near the Boat
Don't Stay Focused on the Fight

yuppers..biggest thing i see is when someone hooks a fish and get it to the boat and the fish goes under the boat they stay wher ethey are and try to hog the fish out from under the boat..best thing you can do in my opinion is just try and hold it there without pulling any line in,just hold the fish until shes tired enough and she will come to the surface.
best thing you can do on any fish is keep your rod high, follow the fish and keep steady pressure on the fish.

I disagree.

If a fish goes under the boat I stick my rod tip deep into the water
to hopefully prevent my line from being rubbed along the
 boat, motors, or transducers.

Through my lifetime of fishing, I have probably done each and everyone of them more than once.

i didnt mean for that part to go along with when a fish goes under the boat. but yea i agree, you gotta do what ya gotta do to protect your line from things that could pop it and what not and most times i reckon that calls for you to stick your rod in the water some times all the way up to the reel lol

Don't let anybody kid you, even  the best of catfisherman make mistakes. The fish has the odds in its favor for sure.

What exactly is meant by following the fish?

And if only I knew how many times I've set the hook in a hurry and wrapped my line around the top eye. It's so frustrating to be fighting a fish one handed while trying to unwrap your line.

If you are in the bow and the fish heads to the stern go with it dont try to stay in one place and horse him to you and if its a monster and headed down river you might want to slip the anchors and follow just make sure you have a float on your anchor line

Ahh, ok, that makes sense. Maybe if you just politely asked them to get in the boat you could avoid any fight at all.
