someone mentioned cranking the bait 5 turns every 5 minutes or so to disperse more scent. I like that idea and try to use it also.
I go the opposite way and let out some line every so often.
Thats works good in running water too
Both methods are very effective, and I use them both. When fishing from the bank I use the drag and drop method most, I cast beyond the area I want to work, and every so often lift the bait off bottom and work it over and around humps and structure, bumping and thumping bottom as I go all the way back to a fresh re-bait. [smilie=banana.gif] Somtimes I cant even set the pole back on the holder before there is a fish on.There has been many a slow night when we have triggered bites employing this tactic.

It also helps us long distance casting wannabes like me to make sure Im not casting over and missing opportunities at close in fish.
The other method some folks call Kansas Fluffing, and its one of my favorites. Its somthing I always did,but after reading an article about it in In-Fisherman I've refined my technique a lil for the better. From the bank, its not that great unless the current is really ripping and it allows me to pick the rig up and get it moving downstream. It seems to work best when fishing from a boat. With some practice you can learn how to "steer" your bait into choice locations where the fish are holding such as root balls on downed trees,to check the head, middle and tail of deep holes and undercuts among other nice places. It really is a deadly presentation.I caught this flathead using that method.
