when fishing big rivers i like to fish the edges, when fishing the creeks and streams i fish the middle right in the current, when fishing the lakes near me i fish for them just as if i were fishing bullheads or northerns but with my catfish bait.

The strongest current I can find. I avoid the slack water completely. For channels the faster the better!
