I am about to buy a big lot of Hooks (running low) For Channel Cats and I can't decided with ones I want. I go back and forth when it comes to hooks for channel cats. These are one ones I am looking at. Does anyone have an opinion on which ones I should get. I usually will buy a couple of different sizes and kinds but I have a chance to by a big lot for a good price. These are the ones I can get a big lot of them that will work with cats. Also does anyone have a suggestion for other type hooks I can buy at my local wal-mart or sporting good store. I try to set up with a couple of different sizes when I go out fishing.

I believe those worm hooks are for bass fishing with plastic worms. The offset ones have a sharp bend near the eye designed to keep the plastic worm from sliding down. Kahle style hook are popular for catfish and can be found at Walmart. Offset worm hook

I know a lot of people use them for bass but I have heard people say they use them also for cat fish and so I put them in the list. If they are not good for cat then I take them off. Thanks for the info. That is one reason I like this site. You get answers from catfish people : : and not just people that fish for cats every once in a while and say things that is or could be wrong. Thanks again

I don't see why they wouldn't work for cats too. I thought maybe you were buying them sight unseen and didn't realize they had the bend in them. Gammys are some of the sharpest hooks I have ever seen.

My favorite for channels is a VMC 5/0 sure set---put a little offset on em and they'll catch cats all night long---check with your dad,,,I think he has a box laying around

I used to use really small J hooks when targeting channel cat, done quite well with a size 2 eagle claw..I now use 5/0 gamagatsu octopus circles when after channel cats..If I think the flatheads are feeding also I will 8/0 circles..I have caught some small channels on 8/0 circles.

I usually, when channel fishing use 2 rigs with 2/0 octupus hooks and baby shad. Living in Kansas I have the good fortune of a three pole limit, and, on the third one I usually use a 5/0 circle hook with a large shad head (or bluegill if the large shad aren't available). This setup usually keeps me busy, can't tell ya how excited I get when the clicker takes off on the bigger rig. Good Luck....

I am almost using khale hooks for all my channel fishing now, they seem to be working the best, even over the circles. Just my opinion.

Nothing wrong with the worm hooks. Especially if they are a real bargain. I used them for years after I quit bass fishing. They work about as well as a decent J hook. Now if the price was equal to some Kahle hooks I would go with the Kahles. 2/0 to 4/0 Kahles work well for me. Also I really like circle hooks in 3/0 to 5/0 for channel cats.

I bought some hooks last weekend that are called Daiichi's. They are kind of pricey at about 4 dollars for 4 hooks but they seemed to work excellent. I bought them in the 4/0 size. They are circle hooks, but I took my pliers and opened the mouth of the hook up and I only missed one fish. Has anyone ever had any luck with circle hooks? Unless I open them up a bit I cant seem to catch a thing.

Speed-- if your having to open up the gap on the Daichi circles then you need a larger size. For most of my channel catfishing I like 5/0 VMC's sureset circle hooks. For large blue's and flatheads the Team Catfish 8/0's is my preferred hook. Like Doug said you tightline and let the fish set the hook using the rod action to load up the line for the setting action. One thing you must be careful with when using circle hooks is not to over fill the gap with your bait,,unless its chicken liver -- then it doesn't matter as it shreds anyway.
