I need to go back to Gibbons Creek to run and fine tune my boat motors before I go back on Saturday with my daughters. I will probably go Thursday and Friday, Thursday mainly to work on the motors and Friday to fish and chum.

I was thinking about chunking some canned dogfood in a few key areas around some standing trees that did not have a lot of boat traffic the last time I went. I will probably do this Thursday and then fish on it the same day to see if it works.

So, do I need to go back Friday to chum or will the fish hang around from Thursday evening to Saturday morning?

I would think soured corn would be better but I have not had a chance to sour my leftover deer feed.

Will the canned dog food work?

Should I punch holes in the can or just distribute the contents?

Don't litter the water with another can 2cry Dog food will bring in a few of the smaller ones and it wont be long before they get filled up and wont bite.  Generally scenting up an area does better than chumming,,,a couple ways to do this is to put some chicken, turkey, beef, or hog livers in a blender and liquefy em, then pour this in the area you plan to fish....a word of caution thou,,do the blending very near the time you plan to use it,,generally within a couple hours,,,for some reason the bacteria starts cooking a lot faster and you'll make a great puke bomb,,,especially with screw on lids,,and dont fill the containers full,,leave lots of head space as it will swell.  Another good option that I use is pelleted alfafa---rabbit food from wall mart.  This stuff turns into nothing but scent as soon as it hits the water and drives the bait fish and carp crazy,,,,with all the bait fish going nuts trying to find something to eat (I really think its more akin to a cats on catnip) it attracts the bigger predator fish --- just scatter it like feeding the chickens  smiley

Thanks for the tip on the alfalfa, is this the same as range cubes?

I would not throw my cans over board, I would tie them to a tree and take them with me when I leave.

I'm not familiar with the range cubes--probably not,,the rabbit pellets are more like pressed alfafa dust.

Range cubes are just compressed alfalfa only in larger sizes, I buy them for my horse but I don't think they would desolve like rabbit pellets.

I'm using some stuff I got at Wally World that is called  Magic Bait Dinner Bell Fish Chum. It is a powder and I put it in a parmagon cheese bottle and shake it out . I'm going to try the rabbit pellets also.
