Arlington, I'll add to this as time goes on

#1 push power Button it will go through a series of windows
#2 hit exit that will bring you out of the start up mode
#3 hit Menu you should have a box like this

these are drop down menu's so if you want to toggle thru them using your 4 way toggle you can hit the up or down to page the menu if you hit the right or left on the toggle it will select that for you the window will turn white as you toggle down it.
#4 with the Sensitivity in white push the right hand toggle on your 4 way and bump that up to 12, as soon as you make a change the Bird locks it in.
#5 Now toggle down to the chart speed when it turns white hit the right 4 way toggle bump it up to 8, this will give you plenty of information on the screen, stuff on the screen right side is newest left is oldest. After you do this push your menu button 2 times, you should have this, there may be another window that pops up says sonar Normal/ advanced select Advance you should now see this

#6 Toggle down to fish Id and select Off
#7 Toggle down to Surface clutter and select it and toggle to the left as you want a small number and change it to 2, this will get rid of the garbage at the top of the screen
#8 Now toggle down and select Noise Filter change it to Medium
#9 Hit exit a couple of times and your main screen should pop up looks like this.

The information that is on the right side of the screen is what is under your boat or just past your boat, information to the left is the older stuff.
Tomorrows lesson will be what is all the stuff on the screen and how do I know what all this is..........Doc
