OK, I got bit. Decided to get a 797 and install it beside my Lowrance lms337, but only got to try it out today. From reading up here and on the yahoo groups forum, installation went pretty good, and the unit reads at full speed on my boat. I've still got a lot to do as far as sensitivity, chart vs boat speed, etc. Now I need to know (maybe I missed it someplace on here) how to view the screen captures and sonar recordings on my pc. Check; Make that the recordings. I can view the screen shots ok. Is there a way to play back the recordings, too?

Sure,,,Add a memory card and in your menu there is a setting to turn on the record button, then just press mark like your marking a location with gps and it will record your screen...your very first screen with up and down buttons (I think) will cycle you thru your saved screens. Welcome to side imaging

Howdy, Tommy I havent looked at my pictures too much on my graph. I need to play some more myself. I can tell you I use the card reader from my old lowrance to download my photos from my card to the computer. Looking forward to seeing some of those santee shots you get.....esp the doors. :2wink: I know Im ready to look at my flathead spot and see whats down there this summer. As for the card I just bought a 2gb sd card for mine. Around 20 bucks was the cost. Sorry dont know if Im helping you or not. Jim is pretty slick at these computer things and not too bad at catching big flats either. Hes helped me alot with mine.

Thanks, Michael. I have several SD cards lying around. Jim, I figured out how to record and playback the side imaging on the sonar unit while I'm in the boat, but is there a way to do it on my pc at home? I've read something about an xtf viewer, but haven't been able to figure out how to use it. I don't have a cable or anything to connect my 797 to the pc. I used the SD card to update my software, as well as get a few screenshots; just can't figure out how to view the recording. Lowrance has a program so that I could view my sonar recordings, but side imaging is a different animal... I'll try to insert a pic that shows a gill net with what I take to be several fish near the end of it. The net is a line to the right of the fish, that extends at a slight angle to my course. I motored along side the net; one of my early shots. Can you or Michael tell me what I might need to do to enhance the resolution, etc.

Well resolution is pretty much what you get with the unit but buy a SD card reader and cable, then you can pull the images off and into your photo program on your computer like corel paint shop pro,,,I think they store it as jpg image

I bought the PC kit for mine but I dont have much use for it. It might be because my lake (Badin) isnt on the hot maps but when I veiw it on computer it dosent show anything, cant even browse other lakes.it shows the waypoint I selected but I cant look at lake(even if it is just the outline) or how far it is from one waypoint to another. All I see is the waypoint information.anybody else having same problem as me with HummingbirdPC? I tried the navionics program but then I cant change it to anything Hummingbird would take. I have a Garmin GPS in the car, It has Map Source. It is a good program to me. but also havnt found the right file converter to change it to hummingbird format. I will find a way to do it but most dont envolve that expencive "KIT" from hummingbird. I have tried HummingbirdPC, NavPlanner, GPS Utility,Map Source, nRoute. I can make a map like I want but havnt been able to convert them yet. pictures are saved in bitmap (bmp) a generic format that any computer can open. if you save it on a SD you can take it to a program as WVBowhunter said and put arrows, text even a picture of your wife if you like. then put it back on SD and it will still work as long as you didnt change the size or BMP. I like that part and it only requires a SD card and any reader. Yall probably already know this but figured I would say it so it would be writ.

Tommy the resolution thing on your picture could improve if you moved the side range to a shorter distance. You proably already know that though. I think your side range was 63ft and bottom depth of 24ft. Its kind fo tuff staying on the object when you get that side range in real close but the picture is much better for closer inspection. Mine seems to get blurry when I zoom in also.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I'm going to practice with it every chance I get. I try to learn something new each time out, but I still don't even have all the stuff down pat for the lowrance units. I compared the two yesterday on regular sonar, and the HB seemed to do pretty good, but I think it was lying to me at times. There's a lot of underwater floating debris (grass) in the Waccamaw River where I was, and I think it was thrown off at times, compared to the lowrance. I can adjust the lowrance to get rid of that stuff, but haven't played with the HB enough yet. I think it will do ok, though.

Tommy the sensi. seems to be more responsive on the HB to me over my old lowrance. Where I was running 80-90 percent on the lowrance... Im now running 50-60 percent on my HD. Its hard to put faith in a new unit once your grow acustom to another. At least it was for me. I was going to run both units like you are at first but didnt have the room on my dash. As far as marking fish my lowrance done me fine but the structure issue with the side image was a major plus for me in finding fishing spots. I now find myself looking for structure as much as I do fish. Also for finding bait here its amazing to see where the bait schools are on the side image. I hit on a few flatheads here this spring and without the side image ...chances are I wouldnt of even fished that spot. Turned out to be one of the best spots I ever fish too. So it was money well spent for me.

Michael: these are a couple of shots of the 'doors'. I'm still playing around with settings, and I have some noise on the right that may be coming from all the boat wakes on the lake yesterday; not certain. Hopefully I can get some better shots by the time I go out again. I think I'm gonna like the side imaging, but I'm not overly impressed with the standard sonar, compared side by side with my lowrance. Maybe if I play around with the settings there it will be better for me.

Does anyone have an idea what I'm seeing here? Same location; different shots. Maybe an old well, or sinkhole? Look at the down sonar, then the side image.
