Interesting photo Tommy. My guess would be a old road bed maybe but knowing santee I dont know where that mountain came from its cut into....lol. There is just so much history in santee and whats under the water it would be hard to tell for sure. Could it be from dredging at one time? Thanks for the shot on the doors. Should be good at the right time. :2wink:

Blackwaterkatz, I haven't viewed a recording on the PC yet either but I did install SON2XTF from Humminbird. It looks like a DOS based program, but pretty staight forward on it's use. I'm going to try to remember to make a recording tonight and view it on the PC, to get a handle on it. I got a new 2 GB Toshiba high speed SD card and it saves snapshots in 3 seconds, way better than the PQI card I had in there. I was half way down the lake when it finally got done saving it. I'm going to put in the new update this morning and see what it fixes tonight. I have been reading bottom real good at top speed, but I got the ducer on my 797 way below the boat. It has a mighty rooster tail, I need to put a shield over it to stop the roosting. I know I'll never go back to a 2D sonar ever again.

Does anyone have an idea what I'm seeing here?  Same location; different shots.  Maybe an old well, or sinkhole?  Look at the down sonar, then the side image.
Eureka!  I think I have finally figured out what I've got here.  Based on the gps coordinates and a different (printed) map that shows old homesteads, and such from before Santee Cooper was flooded, I'm pretty certain that I'm seeing a cross section of the remains of Old Santee Canal, opened in 1800 to connect the Santee and Cooper Rivers.  The canal is visible in the first pic, running off to the side. This thing has really bugged me.  I went back onto the lake recently and looked at the area again, and now I'm certain that's what I have.  May just be a good hangout for those cold water flatheads, Michael...

Could very well be a good flathead hole Tommy. Thats what I like about the side image though, had you seen that on the lowrance or even the regular humminbird it wouldnt of showed quiet so easy for you. Seeing the whole picture makes a big difference for me. That thing could be full of brush down in it also....maybe. I know where a spot here on a lake thats similar but havent put time into fishing it yet.

Thought some of you might find this interesting.  It's only a few yards from a boat landing, and I stumbled upon it on my way in, but didn't really look at what I was seeing until later.

black water you may want to let the local law enforcement know about that car in the water. 2 to 1 odds are that it was stolen or used in a crime and dumped off the ramp if its that close to the ramp. sweet pics by the way.

Yeah, I guess so.  Oddly enough, a family member's Cadillac Escalade was stolen recently and recovered from that same location only a couple of days before I found this one.

was playing with sonar this past weekend and turned on the fish symbols, It showed symbols where I didnt see arches and in other places it showed strong arches with no fish symbol. It almost never marked a large arch that I look for when looking for catfish. have yall tried yalls fish symbols? I set it to show all fish. I like my fish finder but just want to make sure I'm not missing something grin

Jerry, I almost never use the fish symbols, because I find the arches to be more accurate.  I've found that there is a sweet spot to get the best arches; on mine, the boat should be traveling at about 4-6 mph, the transducer should be horizontal to the water surface, and of course the sensitivity and chart speed needs to be adjusted to get the best reading.  In shallow water below, say 12', it's hard to get good arches, just look for structure.  When moving very slowly, the arches will actually be a long straight line.

To update the vehicle finding, a friend went with me last Thursday and dove down to confirm that it was a 2004 vintage Suzuki Verona, Red, with SC plates that expired 5/05.  Contacted the Sheriff's office on Friday and the local rescue squad recovered the vehicle.  Turns out it was reported stolen a couple of months before the plates expired.

Jerry I havent even turned on my fish symbols. Only thing I have really noticed for sure on mine so far is a gar will make a solid read arch. I use to mark gar at Tillery on my lowrance and it would drive me crazy looking at them big pretty arches. Some of them would be 1/2 thick on the screen. Now last year when my team won that tourney at badin I marked big arches in the area we fished on thrusday of that week. They had a yellow outline but a red center to them. I couldnt get them to bite on thrusday but saturday they was biting.

Tommy that was a cool find.  Do you know if the car had been there since 2005 or dumped recently?

Thanks, Doug.  Michael, I haven't done enough checking my arches to see about the colors and such that you mention, but I've heard a few others say the same thing.  I can usually tell the catfish by their location and be pretty sure, but when they are suspended, I have trouble discerning them from stripers or gar.
As for the car, it had been there a long time, judging by the scum buildup that Jarrett had to wipe off to read the plates, so I suspect it had been there since '05.  I wasn't looking for it; just happened up on it, and didn't really study the snapshot until I got home later that day.  The vehicle just jumped out at me when I put in on the pc.  laugh
