Buck if ya want me to run a deal down on a humminbird just let me know....lots of good birds out there in that price range.  Just remember to get as much wattage (power) as you can afford and a 60 degree transducer...I can help explain some of the techy stuff in redneck if ya got a little time before the purchase.  One of the reasons I like the birds is the fishy symbol and the arches are both shown so you dont have to guess which arch is a fish and which one is noise.  Having it being able to take a chip for mapping of your favorite lakes and streams is great,,I love that.

honestly that is a good price for a good unit,,,the only place to go up from there is with a side imaging system like the 797 and another 700 bucks  laugh It is a very solid choice,,,make sure your getting a transducer and gps antenna for that money,,,if not like I said I have another gps antenna.  Also the 90 degree transducers are fantasic for fishing for suspended crappie.  the 20/60 transducer is just fine for catfishing---with the 60 degree cone your looking at about 1 to 1 meaning in 30 ft of water your looking at an area about 30 ft in diameter at the bottom of the cone.  The 4000 watt is the minimum in my book for transducer pwr for good catfishing.
