I built my self a new bait tank May 13-2006. I think it turned out great. We used it all summer and it keeps bream alive good but not shad. I only used an air pump which is good for bream. I'm going to build one for shad soon. It needs a good pump filter system. I usually purge all my bream in a 5 gallon bucket of water before putting them in the bait tank this helps keep the water in the bait tank clean.

I made the Tank from an old drum which a friend of mine gave me. He gave me several of the drums I gave Dragger 2 of the drums and he made a bait tank from one.

I used 3/4 plywood for the top and 316 ss piano hinge on the lid  and #10 ss wood screws 3/4 of a inch long to mount the plywood in the drum and to mount handles and hinge.I used Thompson Water Sealer on the plywood.

I have some pics of the tank if they will upload

Hey Ace, when you use photobucket. copy and paste the link that has the IMG tag on the beginning of  it and your pictures will show up on the thread instead of just as a link.

Go get you one of those Super saver 12 Volt Aeration Systems for it.  That way you can just throw the pump over the side to fill it the easy way.   Or just get you a pump and make up one using garden hose with the hose connectors you might want to add on to end of the hose that connects to the spray bar. Add on the good brass quick connects for the main hose so you can quick connect to not only fill, but empty over the side.  They are only a few extra dollars, but worth the money and a back saver using a 5 gallon bucket.

Thanks for the info brother I will check on one that will be a lot easier to fill and empty the tank.

Ace.
Thank you as you have given me a few ideas for the one that I want to make here in the next few months for the new boat.  I have emailed back and forth a few times with a few of the Conservation Directors here in Missouri about a few more ideas that I might use also.  Very interesting information that they passed on so let me get them to perhaps write up something for here on the board once we get it up on the perm server.
I want to use one of those Rubbermaid Hog troughs that is plastic and so something very much like this one you have done.  I need to be able to stand on the top so that I can throw my cast net over the front of the boat.  I figure this will be my temp live well for holding the bigger fish and can be pulled out of the boat for pleasure fishing.
If you look at the picture of me, You will see that in the front of this boat is a metal hog trough that we use in this one.  My boat is very much like this one as I bought the shell and am building it from scratch.
