I have only been catfishing for 8 years, but fished most of my life (23)....but i have only been introduced to three knots....which one is the best, i typically use palmar or however you spell it, and sometimes if i am in a hurry berkley knot....i can remember being younger and breaking off a lot on blue-gills and bass, dad doesnt fish....so what is the best knot to tie to catch cats??? although (knock on wood) i didnt break off once this year, at least on a fish...

The top two are palamar and the trilene,,,the no knot snell is as strong as either of them, but its a snell not a knot

I use a palomar knot on the swivel after putting a sinker slide and bead on the line. I snell all my hooks in advance then make a loop in the snell lead with a surgeons knot for quick attachment to my swivel whenever I have to change out a hook even in the dark. This method also makes it easy when switching hooks and sinkers from live bait for flatheads to fishing cut bait for channelcats and blues without having to retie everything.

You are already on the #1 river in the state. Ohio isn't known for large Blues. They are here but you have to hunt for them!

I also snell my hooks and use a palomar for all other mono knots. Double palomar for any braid knots. It's tied the same as a palomar, just go through the eye twice and around the mainline twice instead of just once. Kind of a bear to get snugged down. I usually have to wrap the tag end around my plier handle to get enough grip to snug it. Well worth the effort to not have a braid knot slip with a big fish on tho.
