First you will have to apply these guidelines accordingly to the size net you are throwing. Myself I throw an 8' net, I started with a 5' net to learn. It is when I met a fellow angler who was throwing an 7' net and informed me that it was actually easier to throw than a 5' net. This fellow angler is now a life long friend now of about 10 yrs. As he took the time to teach me the ABC's of castnetting so will I now share them with ya'll.... I will try and get the video made today, but no later than tomorrow. This way you will be able to visualize the detailed guidelines.....

First you do not throw a cast net... this is an art ... you swing and twist... This consists of a backswing ... a forward swing ... a upward swing ... a twist of the wrist ... and letting go ..... There is also the proper way to hold and wrap your net and the rope which we will cover first...
Holding and Wapping First of all if your right handed use your right hand and vise versa... Place your wrist band around your desired wrist. Let's say for these guidelines you are using the right hand so that the instructions here are understandable... If the rope does not have a wrist band then pass the main rope through the eye of the rope making a self tightening eye and pass your right hand through it then wrap the rope up in the right hand making about 15" loops .... When you get to the top eye of the cast net grab it with your thumb and index fingerof your right hand, lifting the net until the bottom of the net is barely touching the ground ... You will then want to take your left hand and grab the net about half way down , now grab this area of the net with your right hand ... Now go strait down under the tip of your thumb and grab the bottom of the net {the wieghtline} and barely place it on top of the wadded up net in your right hand using the thumb to hold just the edge of the weightline to keep it in place ... Now, using you left hand follow the weightline down from your thumb and grab the netabout 6" to 10 " above the bottm of the weightline ... You will want to grab a small handfull of the net .... You have now correctly completed the first rule of thumb for castnetting. We will now focus on the backswing, forward swing, the wrist factor, and letting go.....
