ive not had much time to compair the 2 side by side but i have owned both in the past and say they are pretty much equal..although i did have an insert or to on the guides of the big cat pop out,im not sure if thats ever been a problem with the cat maxx rods. i dont have the rods anymore.

At one time the Cat Maxx rods was all I had but I had a problem with inserts coming out and got tired of trying to get them replaced.I'm 2 hours from the closest Bass Pro Shop.I switched to the Big Cat and so far I have been very pleased with them...I really liked the others too so I think it's just a coin toss

I have plenty of Cat Maxx rods, and I think theyrre great, besids the inserts falling out. I have some Quantum Big cats, but theyre MH,so I cant really help out there.I wanted the Heavy acton, but couldnt find any.I dont think you would go wrong with either one.Theyre both great cattin rods.

Well I have both and like them both the only problem with both of them is the eyes. I do think however that the new big cats have better eyes than the old ones. I like the uglystick Tiger better than both of them. They are a great pole. But between the maxx and the big cat I would have to say they are both about equal the maxx does have more eyes so I would prolly give it the edge.

I have to agree I've had the inserts come out on a Cat Max rod, but Big Ones is right, the Tiger rods are on a whole other level than the CatMax or the Big Cat rods.

katman, maybe you are talking about those cheap shakespere tiger rods walmart sells for around 20-bucks..The ugly stik tiger has enough backbone to land any fish that swims in fresh water, and then some..In my opnion.

Yeah I don't think we are talking the same ugly stick tiger rod. The one I am talking about is rated for 30-60lb test has stainless eyes that you will never have a problem getting loose or falling out and has a backbone that will handle any freshwater fish and most saltwater. It is actually made for saltwater fishing.

We have the be talking about different rods. I have never heard anyone on earth say that a Ugly Stick Tiger Rod doesn't have enough backbone for ANY fish.

Here are the good ones:

Katman,

I have a Big Cat rod that is almost brand new. I'll trade it for a Tiger.

Im sure pat knows what rod we are talking about...they are not my #1 choice for flatheads becasue they all have soft tips, better made for circle hooks and i dont like circles for flats, now the ugly stick tiger lite is one heck of a flathead rod, perfect balance of tip and back bone, good hook setting power and great back bone for pullin em from cover. i own 2 of the HVY action tiger lites and wish i had more, they arethe perfect flat head rod IMO,they dont have the "flimsy" circle hook tip liek the regular tigers.  http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp;jsessionid=TVIKWFURCWB5GCWQNWRSCOAK0BW0IIWE?id=0037185120975a&type=product&cmCat=perf&rid=0180101070502&xpid=k17401&cm_ven=Performics&cm_cat=Affiliate%2Dclick&cm_pla=Nextag&cm_ite=DDI%20Link&afsrc=1&_requestid=120065

I have two medium heavy ugly stik tiger rods and they have extremly stiff tips, stiffer than a big cat heavy action..Now I also have two medium ugly tigers which have a slightly softer tip which I prefer.
