Hello Everyone

When I look at different model hooks, say a 5/0,  they vary greatly in size.  They seem to vary, not only from different manufacturers, but with the same manufacturer.

Is there any standard on hook size.  What determines whether a hook is a #2 or #5/0?

Thank you,

Grits

I think each manufacturer has their own standard I stick with Diache Eagleclaw or Owners in the Blood red if I can find them 5/0 to 7/0 circlehooks for driftfishing and 7/0 to 10/0 circlehooks for bottom fishing

Hook size is normally given by gap from point to shank.
As the shape of hooks differ so does size rating.

BTW
In most cases as hook size increases, so does wire size used to make hooks.

Finding the best size and shape of hook for your needs is often a matter of trial and error. That is one reason there are so many different hooks. There is not one style that works in all situations.
