this might be a dumb question.. but when i fish at night it seems i am always trying to come up with newways to see my rods without blinding me in the process.. what does everyone here do for night fishing?
i wanted to try the glow in the dark paint for lure building and paint it on the ends of my fav cat rods so i dont have to tape on the ends of my rods those little glow sticks. that stuff comes in a nice size bottle and it looked like you could just dip your rod in the bottle and let it dry.
is this a stupid idea or what?

I paint my tips white with a spray can and use a 18" LED light or floresent 12v light.

I went to the Walmart and bought some little aluminum flashlights with key chain hoops, then made some 6" hooks and hang them on the end of my pole between the tip and first eye, the smallest bite and they bounce the light around real good. I am fishing on the bank and the lights just shine on the gravel not in the water. Mine have bounced into the water but they are pretty water proof, they all still work, but that's why the hook is so long.

oh thats easy !!! I DONT FISH AT NITE.......I fish everyday, really and not at nite......1 time this summer I fished at nite..... guess it makes it easy for you... i did make the mistake of taking my wife and son fishing on the lake 1 night and the run back scared them both and she will not get back in the boat. not because i was dangerous or anything she just said you cant see where the heck you are going on the water... its funny when you think about it i guess..

I generally use the 3" glow sticks. Tape them on and have never had any problem. I have set up the lights like Papa does but like the glow sticks better.

1.5 inch glowsticks scotch taped to the rod tip. You can get them at Walmart, or order them in bulk from places online.

paint is not going to glow without lights at night. i dont like no more light than i have to have at night. glow sticks for me. you can buy some at the dollar stores that are 6" long for around a buck a pack. 6 to the pack and they are differnt colors too. scotch tape and cast. they dont last as long as some but they will out last you most of the time in a nights fishing.

There is a post on here somewhere about the glow powder, and if memory serves most ppl said it was a waste of time with too many coats needed to get even close to the desired effect and needed frequent recharging with a seperate light source, and didnt last very long after charging. Also some colors were brighter than others kinda like how the green glowsticks are the brightest and the blue and red were very hard to see at any distance.

From what i see of them that would mess with your night vision by keep charging them by some kind of light source. That's the beauty of using glow stick's. Yes a little more money but it wont keep messing with your night vision.

I use an LED anchor light that only shines up and out, not into the water and I can adjust it to any height from 2' to 6'. I can see my rod tips if I keep them up at a 25 degree angle or more. I found this type of light due to a few warnings for not having an anchor light at night on some Ohio lakes as well as the Ohio river. A regular anchor light will light up the whole lake and your boat.
