I replied to your rod holder thread yesterday Steve, but the laptop decided it wasn't worth posting and ate it  grin

I use down easters on the boat down on the James set around 60 degrees

I use driftmaster styles set from 15 to 45 degrees while bank fishing for Giant flatheads --- low angles for stiffer boat rods and J or Kahle hooks and higher angles for softer tipped poles and circle hooks.

I truly believe a better down easter could be developed using wire forms to provide greater X Y axis settings (sorry I'm an ol satellite technician)

The reason I went with the down easters saltwater versions for my boat is they are the only rod holder built and tested on fish to 85 lbs.
I find they release very easily when loaded up with big cats and I'm not trying to pry a rod out of a holder.  I also find the bases for most of the driftmaster styles whoafully inadequate and have ripped the mounts right out of the aluminum railings on my other boats.  The only thing I really have against the saltys are the additional cost for really good mounting arrangements and XY axis settings are not that great.

Jamie, most of us are married and YOUR rod holders would get us the Bobbit treatment, and I know I like everything how and WHERE it is right NOW!!!!! so I'll stick with my santee's and driftmasters and even the cheep Attwood's since I know your rod holders are EXPENSIVE!!!! and I dam sure can't afford two of those rod holders it's all I can do to afford the one I have, where I have a dozen of the others and they are all paid for, every man is always paying for your type of rod holders and they never are paid off even after you get rid of them and get a new rod holder, you still have to pay for the prior use of the first rod holder........don't seem fair......

My life long rod holder turned 40 yesterday.....she was freaking out !  crazy

I have a WIFE just NOT the PAPERWORK that goes along with it ~ kinda like a long term lease..........

The exspensive rod holders are just temps and I toss them away after the get used a bit.......
Once they get a little loose and wont hold the rod very well I pass them on to friends.
