Once you get it set up and operating, I think you'll probably wonder why you didn't do this a long time ago, Doug. I recently bought one of those HB SI units, and the side imaging is great, but my Lowrance still gets top billing for the standard sonar features. The HB is pretty good, but the Lowrance is easier to read and shows more detail, at least to me. Now I be so nervous if I'm with you on a dark night, trying to get back to the lakehouse.

Doug the installation instructions will not tell you this but you need to mount the GPS receiver at least 3 feet from the unit. I have a LMS 520C on my new boat and the dealer mounted my antenae about a foot away. I have had a lot of trouble and when I called Lowrance the tech told me to move the receiver. I have not had time to do it yet but it might save you some headaches.

A buddy on mine has that unit and he likes it, but ran into some trouble with it saying the GPS module is not responding. It is an intermittent problem and I'm not sure if he has reseolved it, but he likes the unit. PS, dark red arches mean gar, don't fish there. Been there, done that, retied leaders.

That is what mine was doing. Along with "position lost" "position acquired" messages. Lowrance told me it was because the reciever was too close.

Just as additional info, I've also seen this happen is some cases when WAAS Required was selected from the gps setup menu. If the WAAS signal is lost, then position is also lost. Not that this is necessarily the problem mentioned above, but might be good to know sometime. I seldom use the WAAS.

You fellow know more about this problem issue than I do but on my x15 gps I run into the same problem you fellow are talking about "only" when I fish falls dam lake here. Its set down in some small hills and is very narrow body of water. Cell phone signal is out there also. My gps module is mounted within a foot of the unit also. Now in open water on other bigger lakes ...I have no problem. I run the wasp on mine all the time. I dont see where it would matter if it was mounted closer or farther away myself but what do I know....Im lost half the time even with the gps on in the pouring rain. Maybe its a issue with this model unit?
