If you had to pick one reel, to fight that personal best Flathead or Blue on, what wold it be? Now I'm not talking those special $1K+ Salwater reel, I'm talking a regular every day cat reel. My choice would be an Abu Garcia 7000B. I really love those reels. I just found a place that has a few left for $69.99 brand new. I almost wish I would sell some of my other reels & buy a few of these.

If I had to pick one reel to fish with, it would be my Abu 6500c3. I think it is the perfect fit for my local river. If I were fishing a larger river, or had an oppurtunity at blues, or had a good chance of hooking up with fish over 50 pounds, then I would probably upgrade to the 7000. It should be noted that I have never even held a penn.

Call me strange but I perfer those older styles, like the reg 7000's than even the 7000C3's, but I dont have a 7000 w/ the carbon matrix drags.

Mellon, the 7000B is the very first "big" reel i ever bought when i started getting into catfish. I had 3 of em and they where stolen out of the back of my truck along with most of my other gear a few years ago. they where great reels.

PENN #9, I fish for anything, but prefer Channel cats, due to that's what is the most available around here.

Penn 320gt2s. Bet if you tie the end of your line from an Abu to the end of my line from my Penns I can strip the line from your reel with mine tug of war style. lol. ( Man we should try that some time! ) Abus cast better, but you need winching power for reeling in big cats.
