Kilmer and his dad came down last night looking for some big cat action on the mighty Ohio River. They had Flipper loaded up and ready to go and asked me if I'd like to join them.I met them at the marina where we keep our houseboat and we launched at the ramp.We had some trouble getting the motor started and it was running a little rough. After some adjustments and swapping out plugs a few times we finally got underway. It was still running rough but we decided to give it a shot anyway. We tried getting some big shad but only got a few dozen medium sized ones.As we putted down the river we discussed where would be a good starting point and decided on the mouth of a creek with some deep holes. The shad were dead by the time we got there, but Kilmer saved the day by getting some huge goldfish,Israeli carp, and warmouth from his local baitshop. We baited up and fished for about an hour with no bites and decided to move to a spot Kilmer had had some luck at in the past.A little time passed and just when we were wondering if we were gonna get blanked Kilmer landed 2 nice channels caught on warmouth.Kilmer got a hit on a huge goldfish and after fighting the heavy fish for a minute the hook popped loose and he retrieved his monster goldfish that had been completly scaled and was gasping from the viscious attack. Then one of my clickers started screaming and I set the hook.I could tell it was going to be a nice fish,he was peeling drag like he had somewhere to be.After a few runs he went under the boat.I was begining to wonder if I was even going to get to see this fish.He was trying every trick he knew. The line went slack and I thought I lost him,but it was from Kilmer,he had him in the net! When I saw him pull that fish over the rail I gave out a big WOOHOO! The scale said 40 and some change but I thought he was bigger than that! We started taking pics and then he bit me!It felt like my hand was stuck in a vise with needles in it,and man it hurt! LMAO! Then Kilmer caught a nice flathead right after that.We all had a great time and headed back to the ramp a little after sunrise. It was a beautiful morning on the Ohio River.
