Fri evening after throwing the cast net for 3 hrs or so for 40 candy shad we headed down to the sharp sides of Wards Creek and within 30 mins I boated a 36lber

then sat around for a few more hours with nothing going on, so we headed up to Herring creek and hit the "Racn Hole" and HillbillyKat boated a 13lber then a whole lot of nothing again,  We tried a couple more holes and still nothing.

We headed out again Sat evening back down stream to Wards creek and sat there for 3 or 4 hours without even a Gar bite so we headed back up Herring and each picked up a 4 to 5lber and a 8 to 10lber.  My 8 lber thought he was a 40lber as he dipped the rod tip almost to the water and then jumped out of the water like a bass   then made a mad dash to the rear of the boat picking up extra lines   I kept waiting for the pull of poundage and it just never came

Sunday night I went for broke and went way up river and started working every thing that had produced in the past with nothing more than an occassional gar that just wanted to chew.  We finally met up with Chris around 03:30 and got some more bait then started working the Presquille cut thru and still nothing.  So I took off and went to Gregs bait spot and set up around 530 am.  As the Sun came up at 0630 I got a light bite and picked up the pole and went free spool clicker off.  Soon the cat was making good headway and I engaged the reel and set the 10/0 king kahle hard and it was on---finally some pull. After a short battle we put her on the scales that read 21lbs    She some how had slid the shad head up the line above the swivel and I only had to rehook it.  another 5 minutes went by and the shad head got another pull   (I like prechewed baits) again I freespooled clicker off and felt the fish start off, I gave it 20 or 30 feet and raised the rod tip high and engaged the reel as I let the fish bring the tip down to level and I came back hard,,, my head light and hat flew off as I nearly fell over backwards,,,,!@#$!@$#%^ gar as I didn't feel a thing.  John was laughing at me as I was reeling in to check the bait and suddenly I had pull,,,yahooo.  I'm thinking 40 as the fight was good and the fish stayed down, but it weighed in at 37...I just can't break my 38 pb

We had barely got her back in the water and my corner pole with a circle goes down and I offered John the fish and in Jamie's famous words,,,
Quote
I don't want no charity fish
was the reply   Well this fish was a 8/10 class fish so not much pull.  I release her and finally John has a run,  he gives the fish a little and comes back hard, the rod doubles, the reels drag breaks free and the line goes limp, John's  jaw drops and I'm speachless and so ended the 35 min sunrise bite.  We sat around hoping for another half hour or so but nothing and we packed it in headed back to WV

I gotta give our sponsor Team Catfish special thanks as I came home without battered catfish hands as those grippers of his really do a fantastic job of holding the fish and you'll see them in the pictures  [smilie=a_goodjob.gif]

Sounds like a good trip Jim, but how in the heck did it take 3 hours to catch 40 candy shad!? Me and my brother did it in less than 5 very ugly throws and neither one of us can throw the net! We hung it off the side of the boat with one of us on each side, swung the leading edge to get momentum, then let it swing out and drop. lol! Not pretty but it worked. Um...I'm gonna try practicing actually throwing it some tomorrow. lol.

Thursday nigt my buddy Thomas threw the cast net three times- and filled my bait coller halfway up. Probably got 50-75 each throw. They are THICK up around Presquile. If you turn on a spot pointed at the water you can see hundreds of them scatter when it hits them.
