My big cat39 lb flathead
« on: July 02, 2008, 06:13:13 PM »

Here in Kansas the KDWP is surveying fisherman to gauge the interest in having a length limit on flatheads. Right now flatheads are NOT a gamefish in the state and thus are not regulated.  I believe that they are looking at a 20" length limit for all bodies of water.  I wanting to know what input everyone has for this. I myself am for a length limit and get tired of seeing people eating 3-10lb fish from the river.   police

i think a slot limit for keepers and only 1 over a certain length to be kept. Maybe i am to strict but i haven't had any really big fish in a while.

Ohio recently started a length limit of one flathead over 35 inches per day.
I have been waiting to see a game warden for clarification idiot

For instance each night fished normally happens over a period of 2 calendar days if you fish past midnight. Also many trophy flathead fishermen routinely release all big flathead. But they do keep them in posession till daylight to get photos and weights.
Technically they would be in violation of the law. Also could a picture of more than one large flathead being held at a time be used as evidence?

So far this has not become an issue since I haven't caught more than one trophy fish per night. I am glad to see movement towards management of catfish in Ohio and hope this leads to better trophy fishing in the future.

it would be much smarter to have a size limit such as 35" instead of worrying about the small ones. those guys in kansas, take all the hawgs home to eat instead of releasing the big ones. very dumb.
