I agree with the fact that there is a strong bit e around dusk.  You need to be soaking bait when the sun gets behind the trees.  The flatties that are hungry know it's time to eat and will get right too it.  Another thing I've noticed aorund here is that when we get strong storms to come through in the evening, the bite WILL NOT happen until right near daybreak.  I fished my best holes all night one night after waiting on stroms to pass through before I got out and I didn't catch a fish until it cracked light the next morning.  Then I got 4 flatheads, on ein the teens and 3 in the 20's  all out of one spot on one rod threw to the exact same place.  Is this strange or has anyone elses noticed this.  I also noticed that I catch more flatheads on barren flats next to the channel, whether it be a main channel or creek channel.  They are not on the ledge and not in th channel but roaming the flat.  And I also see lots of flatheads thrashing on top out over open water around 15 ft. deep.  Has anyone else seen flats do this.  I haven't caught one out over that deep water yet though I 've tried, but when I see them fish thrashing I know I'll get a bite on something I got out there.  Any thoughts on my observations anybody?  Katfish, you got any thoughts on this?

Hey Chris I just read a acticle about a guide on the Yadkin river above Highrock. He says the same thing. He catches most of his flats before daylight in the summertime. Reason being the evening stroms are gone and the water temp is at it's lowest point in the mornings. Maybe thats why I do so well fishing at falls in the early morning hours. Latly it's being raining every night. I plan on going out this up coming week. Should produce something.

Bowhunter, that's funny because I start catching them in deeper water starting in late Sept.  Deep structure and tons of flatheads piled around it.  best night last fall was 13 flatheads in five hours.  had lots of fish in the 20's and several 30's, biggest were 48 and 54 lb.  how shallow do you mean?  I like to anchor where I can fish extremely shallow out to about 15 ft. right now.  I mainly fish flats next to the main channel or creek channel.  Thansk!

Just give me a little time there T-hawk.  I'll get you a picture you'll envy.  I got revenge on some fish on the Yadkin and their time is coming.  I got the 48 and 54 on video though it didn't turn out too well.  I think you know where they came from and if ya'll want to keep fishing shallow water, then go ahead.  Where's your shallow flatheads this summer Tomahawk.  I've caught about 15 nice ones so far and plan on adding to it here pretty soon.  Bowhunter, you ever tried perch for flats up there of just brim.  They hit the white perch pretty good down here.
