bass are seamingly being used more and more around here as well as bluegills, shad, sunfish etc. After being washed off anchor numerious times by "glitter boats" in the past few months due to them feeling they need to run past us at 100 mph to get to there next fishing hole. im happy as a clam to offer bass as a "food source" to our flatties.      :!:

Well I went with other too   the green sunfish is my first choice as it seems to be a preferred food at burnsville.  I do good on gold fish, blue gills and other things too but green sunfish is my first choice.  Check em out they have "soft" skins with much smaller scales than a bluegill or others so I assume thats why the flatheads go for em.  Lots of other good choices that you left out as well---water snakes,,,yep every chance I get I'll put one on the hook.  Frogs and Toads  shhhhh a favorite of old timers   baby fowl like ducks and chickens,,,,ever see a Easter peep on a 12/0 big river :ROFL

I voted other because I like all the ones mentioned along with a list of other live bait that I like including bullheads and bass. I don't use the liver for flatheads either but it works good for channels.

I voted bluegill, since they are easy to get and I use them the most. But I use several baits for flatheads, but only live. Bluegill, goldfish, bass, crappie, green sunfish, warmouths...pretty much if it has scales it is bait.

I use only two types of bait for Flatheads, Shad and Skipjack and both are fished dead, for the last couple of years that is all we have been fishing with and we have had very good luck we are using huge baits some are 16 inches long and four inches across, would love to get my hands on some of those huge Gizzards from the James river..............Doc

I'll fall in line with those baits with scales. Carp, Suckers, bass, shad, but my favorite is still a palm size GILL!! I have caught several on 6-8 inch Bullheads too, about this time of year. Give me a choice and I'll fish with my LIVE Blue Gill.
