Author Topic: anyone no where i can get some skipjack herring  (Read 278 times)

hello all i am planning a trip to the ohio river in may or june sometime and would like to take some skipjack herring with me .i believe they are in the ohio river but i dont want to spend time collecting bait so i would preffer to get some before i go .anybody no where i could get a hook up at thanks for any help  fellas

There thick at Cheatum Dam in Tenn, got a call today about it, didn't matter how far down river you went they were everywhere, also Barkley dam in Ky is giving them up too..................Doc

It doesn't take long to catch a few below almost any of the dams on the Ohio river along with shad or you could take a trip before hand to some of the places Doc mentioned.

Markland Dam is giving them up last few weeks. 1-4 lbs range. :grin:

Catdaddy...I see you are in Indy also. For fresh skipjack, the Ohio would be your best bet...however..both Pike Bait and Tackle and Becch Grove Bait and Tackle in Indy sell skipjack. Pike sells it frozen and Beech Grove has fresh on ice and some frozen.  Hope this helps.

hey scooter thanks for the info ,i did get some from westside bait but i will check out beechgrove baitshop too because i would like to get some more so when i make my next trip i will have plenty thanks
