The closest Ive ever come to building a homemade bait trap is a cane pole  [smilie=a_goodjob.gif] And Ive done enough cast net repairs to consider some of my nets home made too :o   Ive seen some made out of wire for crawfish, but dont quite know how to put those together but they looked cool. : :

I'm not sure,,,but with somebody throwing 2 litter bottles and duct tape in the streams, I'm sure the game warden aint gonna buy "thats a homemade bait trap" excuse and somebody is gonna get a ride to the pokey

If i can get some pics of it i will post them. As for throwing it in the water i tie 20 pound test to it so i can pull it back out. But all i seem to catch is minnows. Don't know about shad yet. And i never walk away and leave it there. If i'm done fishing i take it With me.

I make a simple eel trap that does work, start with a piece of 4 inch PVC 3 feet long, then take a piece of 1/8th mesh heavy screen and make a cone that is about 4 inches long and will fit into the PVC with an opening on the small end of about 1 inch, now take and cut a small opening in the PVC at the half way point just big enough to put a bait ball in the same mesh in, I rivet a small hinge to the piece I cut out to make a door to close and fasten shut.
Now, add a weight (about 2 pounds, I use old window shash weights) with a short piece of rope ( here I drill a 1/4 inch hole in the bottom of the PVC at the hole I cut to make a bait door, and I run the rope through and tie a knot in it to hold it there) now I add a float, here I use a bleach bottle filled with the spray foam you can get at any home store. put the trap in a slow moving area and bait it up. let it set atleast 24 hours.
As for bait it's simple. old bologna, or hot dogs mixed with some dead minnows and there you have it.

I'll get a pic up asap, as for price??????? every piece of it is scrap from job sites, I haven't paid for any thing, and I have about 30 of them. just ask permission to go scrounging and only in the dumpsters, I was able to get enough for 6 traps at three dumpsters.
