I thought it was funny I noticed some articles here mentioning using bass for bait. Its what I caught my biggest cat so far on, but I keep getting scolded by the old timers out at my lake. I know its illegal here was just curious if its illegal everywhere? and what kinda luck you guys have on it.

well i think its something about you cant cut up the fish before leaving the lake because if part of it is missing and warden challenges you and tries to measure and its short they can write you a ticket for not having a whole fish. Sounds kinda dumb to me but at the sametime from what I've read here the rules also say anything caught on hook and line is fair game and you can do with it as you please if its legal limits. Guess ill have to read into it some more.

Well thats basically the law here in WV,,as long as you obey the slot limits, size limits, and possesion limits,,,and you caught it on rod and reel, then its yours to do with as you please.  So with those 3 seven inchers in the aquarim caught on a local lake without size and slot limits, I can go get a couple more before I entice Mr. Flathead.   Check with your local conservation officer and thoroughly ask the question as I stated it above.  Some places if it is a game fish then it cant be used for bait, some places you can, and always obey the rules of the waters your on.

Happy bait fishing
