I'm going to be going out this weekend to fish for flathead for the first time but not sure if i want to bank fish or take my boat out. I haven't really done much catfishing other than for channels. I will be fishing the Kentucky river for them. I was wondering if anyone had any tips to catch them like how far out. I'm going to be using live baits and cut baits. One other thing, has anyone ever fished with bluegill heads. I keep all the heads from my last fishing trip to try them out. Thanks. Mike

Let the bait fish tell you where they will be,,,if the gills are up against the bank,,,then thats where you'll want to fish...For this time of year and our warm water they should be in fairly close when they start feeding...but they'll be laying out in deeper holes and cooler water while laying up.  I'd go with nothing but live bait, and the gill heads probably should be fresh for this time of year.

I haven't had much luck with frozen bait I like to catch fresh bait each time I go even for my cutbait  Will you be fishing a Lake or a River and what kind of current do you have if any look for structure try using a carolina rig with a live gill on it right in front or in the structure if you are in a boat with a deptfinder look for holes with structure close by or on the edge of flats the Flatheads will slide up on the flats after dark and come out of the structure    8)

I will be fishing a river. Depends on the current. If we get alot of rain its fast. If no rain like its been lately its semi slow.

look for scour holes in the outside bends of the river with structure above the hole the Flatheads will setup in and below the structure and wait for the current to bring food down to them in the slack water you can  try a live gill under a float if you are above the hole or the carolina rig just remember to hook the bait thru the nose or mouth so they dont drown in the current Good luck
