The Falls of the Ohio, I had about 12-13 hook ups...........

But the Flats would get off near bank........

I Had 1 that I got to the bank that got off and the hook had turned in to the bait..........

I just wasn't getting good hook sets........

Had a blast though.........

Wow, sounds like you hit the money hole. Looks like I'm gonna be hiding in the back of someone's truck and seeing where this magical spot is...

Nice little flatty to start off the year.

Sounds like you need some better hooks or need to be setting the hook harder. What kind of hooks are you using?

I was using #5 Strike King or eagle claw kahles that were pre off set, Thats what I caught the one in the pic on.

But the other fish I was loosing were much bigger so I went to some big J hooks at the end of the night.

I'm not used to fishing with shad so I may have been getting the hook in the wrong spot or not having enuff hook showing?

I'm going to stay at it though.......

yeah with little bait fish like bass, gills, crappie,,,it's not even necessary for a hook set,,,they got light skin and bone structure.  Now for a big ol flathead --- they got some pretty tough skin and the bone structure of a bear,,,so ya got blast that hook point into the mouth.
