I see lots of folks getting anxious and driving themselves nutz trying to get hooked up on some good fish    I use to see the same thing in my bowhunting circles as bow season started in Mid Oct and by the 1st of Nov everyone was either hunted out or given up when in fact the good hunting wouldnt start for another week or two.   Same thing applies to trophy catting fella's,  you'll see the good fishing in another two weeks, and tapering down towards the end of June then picking back up again by mid Aug.

So take a seat, relax, polish the chrome eyelets on your rods or something      :ROFL

Actualy it should be catch as you can. In other words fish for whats biteing and relax. To many get wound up like a 2 dollar watch(mellon/Flathunter...lol) and forget to enjoy the outdoors because their stressed from searching for that BIG cat. I like big cats but i enjoy catching a whole boatload of 2-5 pounders to.
Sometimes i just toss in the ultralite gear, some long shanked gold hooks and a can of worms and go chase bullheads for a day.
Fishin is fishin it's supposed to be relaxing. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Dang Wolfman, remind me to send you an autpgraphed picture. The majority of your posts lately has a Mellon/Flathunter reference. There is an $5.00 charge for the full color glossy 8 x 10 though.

Aww you two just painted great big bullseyes on your backs awhile back. And soon as the smoke starts to clear and things settle down you two usualy come up with some new hair brained scheme for getting into a new backwoods hole or a new sure fire flathead spot.
Which it seems usualy means you guys end up with egg on your face, scratches on your bodies and a bucket full of unused bait.
In other words your easy targets for some short jabs. 8)

Honestly? Pick one. You two started snipeing at each other with shotguns and i just kinda picked up on it. It may been you blameing flathunter for being a jonah or flathunter blameing you for being a jonah.
Can't remember who's idea it was to haul the boat across the field and down the bluff. Flathunters taste in tailraces. It's just so easy picking on a couple of kids that ride the short bus i just can't resist a shot now and then.

When you fish the same body of water the same way you will never learn another thing about flathead fishing.Never pigeon hole yourself to a certain time frame, water temp etc. You can polish your eyelets all you want but your missing out.Go Catfish...........Catmatt.....................

WVB is correct in that Flatheads are going to spawn soon, heck if I were a flathead I think I would do it to but as in most things they are not all going at once.  I set on the lake many nights and do not get a bite.  If fish are biting well and half of them are on the nest, it is still a better night than no bites.  I hope you get my drift.

The beginning of spawn and the end of spawn are gray areas.  Some are spawning while some are thinking about it or coming off spawn looking for a meal.

September and early October have been my best months for fish but that doesnt mean I will stay home during the slow months.  I do not fish as hard in July as I do in September but I still go if I can.

And then of course there is the gasoline situation.  I think we all could write a book on that.  Sometimes that does shut me down.  Keeps me from traveling anyhow.

Flatheads are heavy on the spawn in my neck of the woods. Water temps on the river were over 80 degrees. Everyone is just catching little dinks at the moment.
