guys i have noticed that the black plastic coated minnow traps hardly ever catch anything......is it due to the dark color?... you can put 2 right beside each other the older ones and the new black ones and see which ones work better....9 out of 10 the old ones work better here..... what could i do to get these new black ones working... someone said to paint the cage a light grey or brown.......  i was wandering about the paint smell.......they said it worked for them...what  do you think

might just be cheaper and easier to buy a new one from CC. they got them in there for about 5 bucks. I use the metal ones with a hand full of dog food and almost always get way more than i can even use.

i would think the BAIT would make the differance not the trap ?

andy the one that i was thinking of is on page 23 of cc. Its the galvanized one but i have to think that it may be your bait more than anything as well. i use dry dog food which takes a little longer to start giving off "smell" but there are times i can use the same bait for 48 hours straight. last week i was out of dog food and tried bread and dog biscuts and only got a VERY few minnows and several crawdads. i typically am trapping a small creek though with a very light current where i put it. im not sure what kinds situation your using it in. i certainly think bait does make it or breaks it for getting plenty of bait. good luck!!

i am going to the tower for spades today so we will use clam. BUT..... i tyr to keep minnows inthe garage bait tank all summer, dropped my trap in with chicken liver and the blood scent is right away of course.....i didnt have to leave it there and come back.....i watched them swim in and FILL the trap with 10 dozen in 10 minutes flat ......full trap. I took pics last nite but the camera is already on the boat for todays trip offshore......details to follow

Esdaddy,  I have the traps your talking about and have no trouble catching chubs or creek minnows in them....try some dry dog food or bread as bait...also block velvetta cheese works great..I sneak some out of the fridge if the wife's not looking lol.
