winter time big blues is the way to go for trophy fish. no pleasure boats to deal with and very few fisherman for that part. most dont think of big cats with ice laying in the floor of the boat. catching bait before daylight is rough on the hands though but the rewards can be great. we usually get plenty of rain in the winter and the current is overall stronger in our lakes which makes for better fishing. muddy water doesnt bother the blue cats either.late dec. to late feb. can and will produce our biggest fish of the year for our area and the number of trophy fish will be the best also. i caught my pb last jan with a blue cat at 62lbs. im looking forward to beating that one this winter and i know it will be my best chance to do it....in the winter! in fact its just now getting into good fishing season with the water temps starting to drop. in my area if you miss the next 6 months....well you just missing the best bite of the year. i been winter fishing for two years now and im hooked!.....lol.
