well they say flattys have a mentality of a largemouth bass so there probably most likely to take a distressest live fish before a severd shad head but you never know

flats eat anything i have caught them on worms even but mostly on live bait the bigger the better i have caught even small 3 or 4 pound flats on 6 inch large mouth bass i perfer fishing with live bluegill it dont matter the size if one sees it your gonna get a run as for gold fish i have caught falts on those but stop and think when was the last time a flattie seen one of those swim by but they do work and as for cut bait it really works it doesnt matter if you use a big gob that would choke godzilla of not if a flattie sees it you have a run its just a matter of being in the right place at the right time anthow thats my thoughts on it and it does produce fish for me

ive caught one flattie on cut shad in my 2 years of flathead fishing, it was early in April.  most of my flatties have been caught on LIVE creek chubs, with a few being caught on bluegills and rockbass !!
