Well I am from Iowa and mainly fish in Rathbun Lake. It doesnt hold any monsters like I have seen on here, but has some huge walleye and crappies. It does have a large population of 6-10 pound blues and channels. My wife and I knowing monsters are rare mainly fish with ultra light set ups. So when we hook on to a 5 pounder with pint size reel and #2 pound test its a battle. But we are going to expand our adventures this year. To go after some big hogs.

Fishing is what matters on the Catters

I wish you both luck in your quest. Set your sight on 10lb. to 15lb. to start. After that go after another 5lbs.  etc... etc..  That way it will not be so frustrated. It may take years to get to 50lbs out there , BUT, THEY ARE THERE!!! You will just have to look for them.  MAIN THING IS DO NOT GIVE UP !!!!

Hi there,
Im an Iowan myself and grew up in Davenport and fished the might miss most of my life. In the spring time we would take trips down to rathban for crappies and usually load up on the 10-12 inchers. At night we would fishing for cats off the banks of the campground and around the dam. Biggest cat caught was a little over 20 pounds (channel) and we caught that drift fishing around the dam. I joined the navy in 03 and have been stationed in va beach since. The james is where its at. I try to make it up there 4-6 times a month and it always pays off. Biggest blue is a little over 70 pounds and 20-40 pounders are common. If your interested in catching these monster blues let me know when you could come down and I'd be happy to take you out.
