Hello everyone.  I am currently serving overseas in Iraq but dont have much longer before i come home and was wondering if anyone could give me any tips or good fishing spots on the Ohio around the Louisville area.  Going to be moving back to IN after i get back and get out of the army so I will be around that area.  I have fished on the Ohio before but not too much.  Havnt really had a chance to in the past 5 years.  Have been in GA half the time and the other half of the time i have been here in Iraq.  But anyway, any tips or good fishing spots would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Welcome to the site Brian and thanks for serving our country, salute.
There are a few places that I know of around the  louisvlille area Chef Jim used to live there and he knows alot more than I do.
Maybe we can coax some of his secrets out of him. lol
When you get back I am sure the people on here will hook you up.

When they got there they had everything they needed except for bait. shocked Although there was a really nice cast net sitting between them, niether one of them could get it to open to save their lives and I suggested they might get more bait if they put the cast net down and threw their purses at the shad instead LMAO  tongue So after a quick lesson in the fine art of cast netting I had the Pumkin throwin the net like a semi-pro  grin There wasnt many shad around at the gas pump, but I pointed them to a spot out on the point where there was shad galore, and in a few throws they had about 30 nice shad to ante up with. They headed out into the storm after I left them at the dock and fished just outside the mouth of Wilson creek and just into the river mouth. Both of them got water logged, The Great Pumpkin got skunked, but Elvis landed 6 channels with the biggest at 8# and a 1# flathead. The storm got really bad so they decided to quit and fish another night. smiley

Finally got to get out on the river afteer a tough week at work.  rolleyes  Started out skipjack fishing, lost a couple and only got 2 skips and a white bass.We needed more bait,so we moved up river and caught some goldeyes and set out to try some new spots.Got some quick action on the first stop with a 13# blue and a 6# channel. Just as I was considering reeling it in for cutbait,I had a screaming run on a 11" live goldeye, but whatever it was stole my bait even though it was hooked through the nose!  tickedoff  Temporarily defeated,I reeled in and tied on a fresh chumline leader,re-baited with a nice skipjack fillet and casted back into 8.5ft water right next to a 22 ft drop off. smiley Wasnt long before the clicker was screaming again, and I got a nice hookset and a great fight up to,and under the boat twice before I finally got the fish to surface. It only looked to be @ 15# in the water, but when we got it in the boat,we knew it was much bigger than that! LOL  Didnt bother with the scale, just took a quick length measurement at 38" and guessed it 35 or so,took a couple pics and eased her back in the water until she was ready to go.Then a monster softshell turtle found one of our baits followed by a 5# flathead, and it was time to call it quits. Another great night on the water!  grin

There were alot of boats out this past weekend, with the bite being slow until the early morning hours when it picked up.We only had one channel cat in the boat the whole night and then the fish turned on and we caught 6 fish in 20 minutes.  idiot
