It's not too bad as you approach the locks there is a chain pull on the big wall, pull it one time, then look down the lock if the gates are open you can enter, look for the traffic light on the wall, enter if it is green, if the gates are closed then you have to wait till they open up, again the light will turn green and they will toot the horn for you to enter, once you get inside, take a rope and tie up to the yellow cans inside the lock walls, make sure you tie up to the move able ones, most are painted yellow they have big roller wheels on them. then you just wait till they fill or lower the locks, pretty awesome how quick they do it, then they will open the gates and again wait for the lockmaster to toot the horn, also don't smoke in the locks, $10,000 fine. It's not bad JT Myers is the fastest I have seen at 15 min. Lockmaster is a fisherman, generally it takes 30-45 on the average, if a barge is in the big lock you can double that time as they take priority, most locks have two locks small and large, the small one is the one you want unless they instruct you different, idle in and idle out of the locks..............Doc

That is some good info. I had been wondering about how to do this also . We have been wanting to take the boat out on the river.
