I talked shortly with Jason before we started and encouraged him that he can do it as I seen the doubt in his eyes. I think once the Capt. and cadre arrived and seen our efforts to keep them as safe and comfortable as possible, they would have really pushed and encouraged others to come out. Two special soldiers that had suffered very severe injuries that was on Eddy Wileys boat, neither had ever been fishing in their life, but ended the day with some big smiles and assurances that catfishermen will be their for them when they return home to SW Ohio. I asked them if they had ever watched the military channel and they confided that they just couldn't view things like that so I told them of one episode where a soldier cautiously approached an IAD when they blew it and it took him off his feet and he took a piece of shratnel to the leg. Although severally wounded he faught his way to his feet, turned towards where the suspected hideout and gave them the "bird"----then explained to them by coming out here today and participated in this event that they gave Osama and his terrorist the "bird",,,,those laughs and smiles was priceless and showed them they have to keep moving forward and we're here to help in their recovery

sorry to take so long to get on here but things happen, I got home saturday night to no hot water, a message on the phone from the guy I work with that his grandbabby had had an problem and passed and he was headed to Fla. and then I had to get Jim straight so I could kick him out the house sunday morning.
well I am still fighting to get all the equipment back to where it needs to be so we can use it again when needed, I have put 1000 miles on my truck running this stuff back and still have the GP-Med to get back to Ft Pickett some time soon. I did not get to fish because of all the work needed to be done back at the ramp cooking and getting set up but I hear it went well for all.
next year things will be a little better, we will have people in place to handle most all the work at the ramp so maybe I can go fishing too.
thanks to all the ones that helped set up and tear down this shindig, it was work from the time everyone left the ramp at 7 am to almost 6 that evening, not to mention the hours getting it all together the week before.
Jim did well but next year he can fish less and work more, he fished everyday except thursday and friday, I was starting to get pissed coming home at night fom working all day and he comes in with pictures............................
well we all had a blast, wish I had done some things different, wish I hadn't done some things at all, wished I had done more!!!!
I feel that if I had had more time in the beginning getting this together instead of fighting the red tape with hopewell it would have been better, I know everyone said it was awsome, but I had alot more planned and wanted it better organized at the ramp but here again one man doing the legistics for some thing like this was a little much, I hate to see my cell bill next month because I logged 93 calls just on wed of last week!!!!!! thanks to all that were there and I wish everyone could have been there. next year will be much bigger. I already have talked with a two star, several other officers and the rotary and we are planning next year all ready so things will be different, I might actualy get to do something beside cooking.

thanks guys, I was really hurt when I seen that no one said a word on the others boards about the cookout and the work that went into getting that done. Jim did put alot of time and effort in this but he was not the only one. I seen where many guys thanked Jim for "putting this on" like he did it alone and it really hurt to not have anyone but Racin to mention the work behind the sceans, I am no glory hound and don't want anything that is not just but to do all this work and no one to even say thank you at the end of the day just kinda went too deep to hold in. I was hurt deeply when I was not even interviewed by the newspapers that came, they ran for Jim and then when someone, Dayton I think, told them what I was doing they said "oh maybe in a follow up, we'll check with that side later. man I was H O T !!!!! Yes Jim did do a hell of a lot but the days I took off work to go and talk to the rotary, the army, navy, and the guard units and all the P.R. work I did went totaly unreconized or thanked. it just really hurt for everyone to be thanking Jim for his hard work and I am getting muscled out of the picture totaly.
I will say this: it made all the hassle and non-reconision worth while when tuesday morning the girl from Ft Eustis called me and was crying and wanting to thank me for this and all the good times she had. she lost 17 ozs of her brain when they had to remove a piece of kevlar helmet from her head after an IED blew the drivers side of their humvee to hell and the driver was blown apart and into her. she has a hard time remembering things and it took her a couple days to find my phone number but she made it her mission to contact me. she is truly a hero. when she finaly said she had to go I told her to call any time and we both were crying. that little girl will always be on the top of my prayer list along with the others but there w something special about her. I had to help her get into her coveralls and I made her plate at dinner and kept her in drinks, she was truly a special person.
I asked her what I could do to make things better for her and all she wanted was something I thought I could not do. She wants to be home in Ohio for christmas. well I was talking to the two star from 80th division wednesday and told him about her and how she really touched my heart and he wanted her name and duty station. I told him all he wanted to know and he "let me see what I can do" afterall this is all about them he said. well I got another call from her this morning. her orders have been cut for two months at her home base in Ohio 75 miles from her home.
SHE IS GOING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!
so I started crying again and thought that the Lord does work in ways that man will never know. I was able to help her. she was just all over the place with excitement.
I have to stop now or I'll start crying again so I hope this little bit makes everyone relise just what you can do not even trying to do anything, so just imangine what we can do when we put out minds to it.

Earl in my first post on this thread I thanked you and Jim for putting this whole thing together. I know that none of it would have happened if it wasn't for both of you. I don't think one person could but an event like this together by themself and make it as much of a success as it was.
That is a awesome thing you did for the young lady wanting to go home for Christmas!
It doesn't matter what anyone else says when you know in your heart that what you did put smiles on peoples faces and memmories for them that will last a life time!
Once again thanks to everyone that was involved in this great project! I know the way it made me feel being able to be a part of it I will never forget.
