This time friday night ill have already been on the bank of the New River for a couple of hours. Im packin my .45 colt revolver with snake shot and my 12 gauge with buckshot, im bringin at least 8 poles, some lanterns, bugspray, and hopefully ill get a fire built. i was gonna bring a sleeping bag but i dont think it would be of much use considering 1. im prolly not gonna sleep that much, and 2 i dont want some big ole rattler to get to comfy with me. im gonna use a variety of baits, most likely live bluegills or chubs, cut bait, nightcrawlers, and prolly some chicken livers packed in panty hoes (seeing that my father insists that they'l work) ive staked out a nice spot on the bank where a stream dumps into the River at a pretruding point on the bank. its nice and sandy so my pole holders should work great. the river also funnels a bit at that section so i think it will we a good spot for cats. its about 250 yards upriver from a set of rapids, and im guessing its anywhere from 40-60 ft deep in this section. im probobly gonna start out with 4 onces of weight and adjust from there, ive never fished the new river but it looks to me like its got a good bit of current, yet im not real sure what the undertow is like. and hook wise im prolly either gonna use a size 8 gamakatzu circle hook or a rather large Mustad "J" hook. im not plannin on getting skunked anymore, i think this place has a lot of potential and hopefully it will produce for me this trip. so with that ill ask if anyone has any last minute advice for me before i head out on this trip. Any advice at all on gear, tackle, equipment, how im goin about this, bait, and other stuff i might need i really appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

forget the guns, fire and lanterns,,,,,rattler is a great live bait, trust me. The fire and lanterns only serve to run off the big cats and dont use any bug spray until the poles have been baited and set.

I just stand on their heads while whacky rigging them in the middle,,ya gotta be careful thou and not fill up the gap on your circle hook, I really think its the rattles that attracts the big cats, somewhat similar bass bait rattle mechanisms

Praying will help, but we had some easterly component winds over the past few days and that will shut things down.
